Children & Infants

Discounted travel

Accompanied by an adult and not occupying a seat, an infant is carried at 12% of the adult fare. Discounts may not be available on promotional fares.

Pushchairs

If your infant is in a pushchair, it is usually possible when you check in to arrange to keep the pushchair with you until you reach the aircraft steps.

It is worth remembering that the sucking action of feeding helps to counteract any earache that may be caused by changes in pressure during take-off and landing. Most children like to carry their own rucksack on board packed with a few books or games, a snack (for fussy eaters!) and sweets to suck during take off and landing.

Unaccompanied children

Children aged between 6 and '11 years 364 days' are eligible to be carried unaccompanied on Flybe flights.

Because Unaccompanied children have special requirements, we are required to make checks when bookings are made to ensure that we do not carry more than our regulations allow per flight.

Bookings for unaccompanied children should be made by contacting the Flybe Customer Call Centre.

Please note, we will require at the time of booking, the name, address and contact number of the person taking the child to the departure airport and also that of the person taking collection at there destination.

In line with the industry standard, Flybe have a supervisory fee of GBP32.00 per sector for the service provided with the carriage of unaccompanied children. Children aged between 12 and 16 years will not be considered eligible for special assistance unless it is specifically requested and the supervision fee paid accordingly.

Rules and regulations

  • It is not acceptable for a child under 12 years to be travelling with a companion who is aged between 12-16 years. In this instance, the child will still be considered to be unaccompanied and the supervision fee charged accordingly.
  • It is recommended that unaccompanied children check in for flights at least 1 hour prior to their departure time.
  • Travel will not be guaranteed to a child that has not been confirmed as an unaccompanied minor by Flybe.
  • Identification of the escort on departure & escort on arrival will be checked (and the child signed for) in line with current policy.
  • If the child is not travelling with their parent or legal guardian, the child should carry their own ID. If there is no ID available for the child please contact Flybe in advance sending a copy of the photo ID from the parents and confirmation that the child is travelling with their consent.
  • Passengers who are aged between 12 and 16 who are not traveling under the Flybe Unaccompanied Minors scheme will require their own photographic ID. Please contact the Flybe Customer Call Centre if you do not possess a form of photographic ID for further advice.
  • Documentary requirements for passengers on International flights will remain as before - i.e. a valid passport or national identity card along with other documentation such as a visa if required.
  • Spanish and French children under 18 years traveling without their parents, or legal guardians, and with an ID card must have a form of written authorization to travel from their parents. The form should be collected from their local police station, which must then be presented with their ID card at the check-in desk and at passport control. If the child does not have this form the passport control officers will refuse travel.
  • Children travelling on their own valid passport do not require the parental consent form.
  • A Family Book (Livret de Famille) is not sufficient ID for a child or infant to travel on international flights.
  • Portuguese nationals and alien residents under 18 years and leaving or re-entering Portugal unaccompanied by their father, mother or legal guardian also need a travel authorisation. The travel authorisation must be signed by the father, mother or legal guardian (If the father, mother or legal guardian reside in Portugal the signature must be notarized). Finally the signature must be authenticated by a Portuguese embassy / consulate in the country where the father, mother or legal guardian do reside.
  • When a person other than their father, mother or legal guardian accompanies a minor this travel authorisation is also required. In such cases the travel authorisation must also clearly show the name of the accompanying person. Foreign minors under 18 years and traveling alone may be refused entry if they do not have anyone in Portugal taking responsibility for their stay.
  • An unaccompanied minor can travel on single or multi sector flights either Flybe - Flybe or Flybe - another IATA carrier. IF you wish to book an unaccompanied minor on a multi sector flight, you will require special briefing from the Flybe Customer Call Centre. The maximum connection time for multi sector flights is 2.5 hours and the minimum is 1.5 hours at the connecting point. Any connection times outside of those given above will not qualify for unaccompanied minor status.
  • Flybe does not guarantee transfers between flights. Any onward flights booked are entirely at the passengers risk.
